Fellowships too much like churches?

On December 21, 2004 on the Open Forum (68 minutes into the program) a Campingite called and asked if Family Radio would post the various Fellowship Groups which have formed around the country so other Campingites would know where they are. In a surprise response, Camping discouraged the formation of Fellowship Groups based on the fact that there is no mandate in Scripture to form them, they may become the personal gatherings of an individual, and they may give the notion that they are pseudo-churches. This brings to mind a verse in Scripture.

(1 Th 5:22 KJV) Abstain from all appearance of evil.

According to Camping and his followers, the churches are all dead and have been abandoned by God, then wouldn't forming a fellowship, which looks like a church, be engaging in the appearance of evil? I thought Campingites were strict Biblicists! If they truly want to live up to what they preach, then they need to dissolve all these Fellowships so they will not be giving the appearance of evil! Oh yes, one more thing, in that response Camping did not state that his fellowship in Alameda, California would be dissolved.

Truth Revealed in the Church Ruled by Satan?

If the church age ended in 1988 and Satan took his seat in the temple (the corporate church), Harold Camping was still a member of a church until 2001. This means that the origin of Depart Out and High Places (1999) began under satanic origin and leadership in the Alameda Church, since the Holy Spirit fled and Harold Camping was under the wrath of God at that time. Therefore, since he was under God's wrath and was in a church for 13 years under the authority of Satan, whatever teaching that was developed, was started by Satan.

End Times

Jer 26:18 Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Zion shall be plowed [like] a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

Dividing the body = death

Do you love your mother? Is your mother her hand, her feet, her eyes? If you cut off her leg, would she cease to be your mother? If you cut off her head? Kill the body and you kill the person. Yes, that soul goes to Heaven (if they are a Christian) but the body is dead. Can a dead body do any works? Can a dead body give cold water to an enemy? Can a dead body preach the gospel? Can a dead body edify, exhort, reprove, tecah other Christians? If you dismember all the parts of the body of Christ, does she survive? The church is one body, eyes ears, hands feet, etc (cite KJV), if you cut off a foot, can that foot survive apart from the body? Can a soul survive outside the church?

Christ must die twice?

Camping teaches three periods. This would require a re-crusifixion of Christ?

Why did God Destrot the Old Testament "church"?

Camping’s thesis is that God destroyed the Old Testament church because of their idolatrous high places and that the New Testament church has been destroyed for the same reason.

However, we know that God replaced thd old covenant with the new covenant because the old covenant was not perfect. The new Covenant needs no replacing because it is perfect.

Flee the churches?

In the Olivet discourse Christ warns of a day when the disciples will see the "abomination of desolation" in the holy place and that they then must flee from Jerusalem (Matt. 24:15). The most straightforward meaning of this text is this: Daniel the prophet prophesied an abomination which would make the temple in Jerusalem desolate. This occurred during the reign of Antiochus Epiphanes (175-164 BC) but had a secondary fulfilment in AD 70 when the temple was again defiled by idolatry. When, therefore, the disciples see a similar desecration of the temple in the future (this happened in AD 70 when the Romans destroyed Jerusalem) the urgent command is to flee in order to escape the inevitable bloodbath when Jerusalem will be surrounded by armies (Luke 21:20). All of this, of course, foreshadows the "great and final violation by the antichrist of all that is sacred."

It was God’s good pleasure to continue this method of reaching the world with Christ until God had securely put in place the ability of believers to reach whole continents for hours each day with the true Gospel.

Family Radio is the "loud voice" of Revelation 14:7:
Surely, as we are able to send the Gospel by radio and internet and satellite broadcasting so that it can be clearly heard in the homes of people all over the world it is going forth with a loud voice.

Matthew 28. Preaching and baptism (and sacraments? "this do till I come") will continue to the end:

Mat 28:19-20 19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen

But the church which Christ is building and against which the gates of hell will not prevail is the church to which the keys have been given (Matt. 16:18-19). These are the keys of preaching and discipline

God’s will for His church is that it be governed by office-bearers. This was the apostolic practice. They "ordained elders in every city" (Acts 14:23). Titus receives the command to "set in order the things which are wanting and ordain elders in every city" (Titus 1:5). This situation is to continue in the church: "the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach also" (II Tim. 2:2).

Not even Paul himself who was personally commissioned by Jesus Christ dared to preach without being sent by an instituted church (Acts 13:1-3). A man may not preach unless he is sent (Rom. 10:14-15). Christ gives preachers to the church and the church sends them to preach (Eph. 4:11).

Without true preaching the believer becomes weak and is tossed about by every wind of doctrine because he is not under the protection of the pastors and teachers whom Christ has given to His church (Eph. 4:14) and who watch for his soul (Heb. 13:17).

Camping reduces the function of the church to world evangelisation and he insists that the church is not able to fulfil the Great Commission.76 But remember that the Great Commission includes the command to baptize those who believe (Matt. 28:19).

Camping: Christ died twice...

" These verses clearly teach us that all the work required to save was finished from the foundation of the world. " (We Are Almost There! p.32)

" when Jesus went to the cross, He was not there to pay for our sins. That payment was fully made more than 11,000 years earlier. But in His great love, He was willing to go through all the agony of bearing God’s wrath on behalf of those He had come to save so that we would see with our own eyes (through the Bible), the enormous payment that was required. " (We Are Almost There! p.34)

" God’s justice did not require that the payment for the sins of the elect be paid twice. This was an extra, unnecessary act of magnificent love by God. " (We Are Almost There! p.34)

" Now we understand that Christ suffered once to pay for our sins, and He suffered a second time to demonstrate how He paid for our sins. " (We Are Almost There! p.34)

" The living tableau that showed how Jesus bore the wrath of God for our sins ended when Jesus cried out, “It is finished.” It was a terrible agony Christ had to experience for a second time. However, the second time was not as an effort to pay for our sins, but to show us and the principalities and powers how He suffered, before the world was created, in order to make the full payment. " (We Are Almost There! p.37)

Misc Notes [in development]

Daniel chapter 12 links the expression "time, times and half a time" [7] to 1290 days[8] unlike Revelation where the same expression is linked to 1260 days. side note: Does this indicate that the events in revelation and the events in daniel are different periods of time? One which includes a sabbath or jubilee year and one that does not?
